History

  • 1856 – The flock became an official congregation
  • 1859 – The first church building was dedicated on Trinity Sunday
  • 1868 – The current church building was dedicated with the original building being used as a parish hall and Lutheran school until 1923
  • 1879 – “Zion” became the official name of the congregation
  • 1885 – Young Ladies Society had first gas lights installed in the church
  • 1910 – First English speaking communion service with English hymnals (previously in German) took place
  • 1919 – Electric lights were installed in the church for its 50th anniversary
  • 1923 – Brick school hall was dedicated
  • 1956 – August 26th, “A Century with Christ” 100 year anniversary was celebrated
  • 1958 – Water line was installed in the church sacristy
  • 1978 – November 19th, the Cassavant pipe organ was dedicated
  • 1981 – Zion Preschool was established
  • 1989 – The church purchased its first computer for the office
  • 1996 – Groundbreaking for the current education wing took place, and Laborers for Christ arrived
  • 1997 – The current education wing, renovated stairway to choir loft, and new restroom were dedicated
  • 1997 – A parking lot replaced the old brick school hall
  • 2000 – February 27th, the clavinova was dedicated
  • 2006 – 150th anniversary of Zion was celebrated
  • 2022 – The brick was refurbished, and a new roof was constructed over the church sanctuary.
